Yarriambiack Shire Council

Yarriambiack Shire Council is situated in the heart of the vast, dry land agricultural area of Victoria’s Wimmera Mallee. Producing much of the states wheat, barley and canola, plus wool and prime lambs, much of the industry and employment is centred on agriculture. However, the main commercial centres of Warracknabeal, Murtoa and Hopetoun and the many smaller towns throughout the Shire, provide strong retail sectors and many unique and fascinating points of interest.

Warracknabeal’s main street has been redeveloped and revitalised, with two unique sculptures representing the arrival of the 'squatters' and the development of the grains industry, recently added to the streetscape.

Hopetoun, in the north of the Shire, acts as the gateway to the 'Mallee Parks', (Wyperfeld, Hattah-Kulkyne, Murray-Sunset and the Big Desert National Parks), which protect over 1 million hectares of the Wimmera/Mallee natural landscapes and are home to abundant wildlife and a fascinating range of native flora.

The southern heritage towns of Minyip, Murtoa and Rupanyup each have their own unique character and stories to tell of a bygone era.
